How to Make the Perfect Smoothie

Spring has finally arrived, and with it comes the urge to do a little ‘internal’ spring cleaning. It’s the perfect time to kick away those unhealthy habits and welcome some new, energizing ones. Let’s go into warmer weather with a new set of goals that prioritize your body and your nourishment.

Smoothies are a great way to cleanse the body and to easily add in nutrient-dense foods into your diet. During this time of year, smoothies are my favourite breakfast or snack option because it’s really refreshing, flavourful, easy to make, and you can take it on the go!

A smoothie is a great place to add many nutrient-dense ingredients, which perhaps you or your kids wouldn’t eat on their own. And there are so many variations to try that you won’t get bored and there ought to be one that everyone likes!

I’ve created a little list of essential ingredients to create the most nutritious smoothie for you to follow:

proteinpowder

PROTEIN – hemp powder, protein powder, yogurt, bone broth.

Protein helps to balance your blood sugar, minimize your cravings and keep you fueled and full for hours to come. Also a great way to replenish pre/post workouts!

FRUIT – strawberries, blueberries, mango, banana

Fruits are what makes the smoothie delicious and a great way to add extra antioxidants to your smoothie. If you want that creamy texture to your smoothie, choose frozen fruits.

greensmoothie

GREENS – spinach, kale, parsley, celery, cucumber, zucchini

Power-packed green veggies are a great way to add fiber, zinc, vitamins, folate, and calcium to your smoothie.

FAT – avocado, nut/seeds butter , MCT oil

Adding healthy fats will help your body break down sugar carbs and slow the digestion process, making your smoothie satisfying for longer.

SUPERFOODS – spirulina, maca, acai, matcha, collagen, turmeric, ginger

They are nutrient-dense ingredients, loaded with essential health-enhancing, disease-fighting properties that will heal your gut, improve skin and decrease inflammation.

LIQUID – coconut water, coconut milk, almond milk, oat milk, water.

Adding a liquid will ensure that all ingredients are well-blended and that the texture is smooth + creamy.

And the most important item needed to make a smoothie is a GOOD BLENDER! My top 2 blender recommendations (that won’t break the bank) are:
