My 5-day Wellness Retreat

During the craziness of running my business, I was always interested in signing up for a wellness program abroad. Even though I have been practicing clean eating and healthy habits, I was intrigued to learn new methods in the wellness industry. As well, I needed a mini break from my hectic life, the stresses of work and ultimately to get a mental break with some focused down time. Long story short, I never got around to it.

Travelling this year, I decided this was the year to do it. My main interest was to find a program that uses Ayurveda, one of the oldest medical systems that originated in India more than 3000 years ago. I find it fascinating that it still remains the country’s top traditional health care systems! The first few months of travelling I was researching and inquiring about programs in India, Philippines and Bali. Eventually, after some time and research I found the right program for me. I chose a combination of Ayurvedic Rejuvenation and Holistic Detox offered at Alila Diwa Hotel in Goa, India. It incorporated all the elements I was looking for combining Mind, Body and Soul with a Holistic and Ayurvedic twist. The price was higher than I would have liked to spend, but it was well worth every dollar. The value was incredible for the treatment I received, and I believe that investing in yourself and your health, as well as your well-being is invaluable.

I decided that the best time for me to begin the program would be after spending a month traveling across India. I figured by the end of this month my body would be in desperate need of a break from the food that would likely flare up my digestive issues and from the pollution and over crowdedness of the cities.

Arriving at Alila Diwa

The location couldn’t have been more perfect for a wellness retreat. Alila Diwa is a close 30 min drive from the Gora Airport. Located on a beautiful resort, full of lush greenery and elegantly furnished, including 2 large pool and lounge areas. Not to mention a short 10 min walk to the warm Arabian Sea! However, I quickly learned that my program would be quite intense, starting early and ending late, and that I would not have much time to enjoy all the resort had to offer (outside of the short breaks 😊)

The Team

On my first day, I met the program manager Arjita and her team of professionals. Arjita comes with a Bachlor’s Degree in Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery, along with qualifications in pranic healing, meditation and hypnotherpy. Some of the qualifications of the team include, fitness, yoga, diet, culinary expertise and nutrition consulting. When meeting with the team, I quickly realized that I was the only one in the program and it would be conducted in shared spaces within the resort, where people are there for vacation. At first, I was a bit thrown off, but I promised myself to go in with a very open mind (and heart). The team instantly made me feel very comfortable from the start and it wasn’t very long until that uneasy feeling went away. Plus, I realized how lucky I was to have all these professionals, with all their knowledge surrounding me and focused only on my experience and results!

Purpose

So, what was I looking for through this program?

1) Detoxing and removing toxins. Travelling for over 4 months includes a lot of eating out, drinking, and cross contamination dirty water and pollution within a multitude of environments.

2) To get things ‘moving again’ (if you catch my drift). If you don’t catch my drift, meaning BOWEL movements. Not having a morning routine and bouncing around by plane, train, etc. had really thrown this off! Eczema had also returned which was a mix of all above.

3) Learn about Ayurvedic Medicine, including mind, body and spirit techniques. Herbal remedies for detoxification and vegetarian foods.

4) Meditation and Yoga techniques

5) Research for my future business ideas/plans

Now you are probably wondering how can I do this in only 5 days? Well, truth is I would have preferred the 7 -10-day program, but the cost was too high to do that. I also realized that I would get pre-detox tips that I could follow to prepare me and could mentally be prepared with questions to help achieve the results I was looking for.

Well hope I built enough interest in the actual program, because next week I will be sharing the actual program with you!

Until next time,
