Pre-Detox Steps

Prior to my wellness program I followed these steps below. These were recommended by my awesome program manager and doctor. I follow this for three days prior to my 5 day program. If you have a longer program I would recommend to adjust up, and vice versa.

1) HYDRATION – oil and water

  • 2 liters of water per day (un-carbonated, filtered, hot preferred or room temperature) This is what you should have daily regardless of detox
  • Cut out coffee, alcohol, caffeinated tea (NOT easy!)
  • 1-2 tablespoon of Chia or Flaxseed every morning
  • No artificial sweeteners
  • No dairy, eggs, meat, fish (NOT easy)
  • No spicy food

Can’t live without the coffee taste? TRY THIS:

2) PH BALANCE – body must be in alkaline state. Even if you are not doing a pre-detox the following aid in gut health and minimize acidity):

  • Aloe Vera
  • Coconut Water
  • Amla Juice
  • Lemon water
  • Apple cider vinegar with water
  • Coconut Cider Vinegar
  • *all above need to be unsweetened and highest quality

My new discovery – I love the benefits of this product!

3) DIET – eat Alkaline forming foods

  • 40% grains (brown rice, millet, quinoa)
  • 40% fruits & veggies (all are okay – limit banana and potatoes)
  • 20% proteins (lentils, lima beans, kidney beans, chickpeas, hummus, unsalted/non roasted nuts & seeds, sprouted greens – mung beans and alfafa)
  • Oils: Cold pressed/Organic olive or flax oil is ideal
  • Condiments: Apple cider vinegar, organic maple syrup and honey, all fresh and dried herbs

Can’t live without your pasta? TRY Chickpea Pasta! My favorite brand for chickpea pasta is Banza. You will feel FULL after eating it as it doesn’t immediately turn into sugar after consumed 😉

You can look up some juice recipes, soups and broths that suit your needs and align to your goals. With some planning and dedication, you can do your own detox program at home! (Don’t forget to follow the schedule and tips in my previous blog) Maybe you can try to do it with somebody so you can hold each other accountable and can encourage one another 🙂 And remember to have fun with it- it does not need to be boring!

HAPPY DETOX-ING!

Until next time,
